“We emigrated from Hong Kong where we had a bakery,” says Chip Tang, who has been involved in the family business since the beginning. “At that time, Alberta didn’t have an Asian bakery. My parents decided to open one up in Calgary in 1978 and then we moved up to Edmonton in 1987.”
Delighting the taste buds (and budgets) of their diverse and loyal clientele for many years, Hong Kong Bakery now has two convenient Edmonton locations to tempt you. “Running an independent business, it’s nice to have the freedom to do what I love.” Chip and his team proudly offer an extensive range of fresh products baked daily from scratch, including bestsellers such as their BBQ pork buns, tarts and green onion cakes.
“We’re a family-run business, so we all have to know everything about the business to make it happen,” says Chip. “We oversee everything ...we oversee the quality and are able to keep it consistent.”
