I had lunch here with a friend on a quiet Tuesday. Stokes-by-the-Bay rarely seems to be busy at lunch time, so hopefully they make their money with the supper and evening crowd ? Anyway, there were a few diners there – may 3 or 4 other groups in a fairly large dining area - enough people so you don’t think you’re the only ones there ! With the small lunch crowd, our waitress was not exactly hard-pressed, but she gave us good, friendly service. I had the soup of the day (cream of asparagus) and the “pulled pork sliders” – 3 small hamburger buns filled with pulled pork in BBQ sauce. It was all good. I particularly like the sliders. My friend had the chipotle burger with fries and gravy. He likes hot food and was happy with the small pile of jalapeno slices on top of the fixings. I’ve been to Stokes-by-the-Bay many times over the years. I can’t say that I’ve ever had a meal that sticks in my memory as a really really special dining experience, but on the other hand I don’t recall ever being disappointed either. Cost for the two of us was $30.51 before gratuity. Stokes-by-the-Bay is a good place to get a reliable, reasonably priced lunch with consistently good service. I’ll go back any time.
A group of us were getting together after work. Great choices of patio, kind of a sunroom type area, bar or main body of the restaurant. Food was good as was the service. Nice atmosphere - will come again.
Went here on a Thursday night this past summer to check out the live music. The place was RAMMED. Service was decent, but not great but their food really is top-notch for a pub/club. The music they have here is pretty good. (Lineups at the door) They have a great patio too.
We have been at Stokes twice during this past summer, and while the meals were great both times, (love the spinach dip) we too felt rushed... it is a fair bit of a drive for us so we like to get there early, have a couple cocktails, nibble on an app; and have some chit chat, but BOTH times the salads came as we were having our appetizer... while the first time, we did have the chance to tell her, we were certainly in no rush, the second time. we didn't get the opportunity. I thoroughly enjoy this place, the food is amazing, it is well worth the drive, and we were both extremely happy on both visits during which we both tried different things, it would be NICE to be able to ENJOY the food!!! Don't rush people folks!!! If people are pressed for time, they will certainly let you know, they have a time limit!
I visited this location last week for a birthday dinner and I think it was the worst meal of my life! The Caesars didn't have rimmer on them; rather they had lemon pepper wing spice. My mother’s boasted chicken came with three feathers still attached; my Greek salad came with spoiled lettuce and no feta cheese. Our baked potatoes were over cooked and very dry. My vegetables were crunchy and the rib portions were extremely small! The Wings were good but you couldn't take them home if you ordered too many. Our bill for the meal and drinks was still over $150+tax and we received nothing more than a “sorry”. Heck, by the time my mother’s new plate came out everyone else was done eating.
The pasta was very good, as were the ribs....started with the soup of the day, which was amazing! Felt way TOO rushed though...we received our soups before our appetizer...were not finished the soups, when appetizer arrived....and we were once again NOT done our appetizer...when the meals arrived. It would have been nice to sit and enjoy each course, rather than rush thru it, while everything was still warm. I could see it, if the place was packed, and the number of available tables, were dwindling, but the place was almost about a quarter filled at the time. A bit of time between each dish would have made for a much more enjoyable experience... as the meal itself was outstanding!
Food was pretty good, however as per the Stokes Bay usual, the service was awful, and gave me perhaps the most offensive experience I have ever had with a server. The waitress picked up the bill with our money, and never returned with our change, thus giving her a very nice, but not deserved tip
Ribs were fabulous, my companion LOVED the soup, brushetta and greek salad also very good. Our servers were very attentive. Worth the drive from Chatham...and will be back!
I must say, this has to be the best place to eat in Sarnia. The waitresses are attractive, the service is great, the food is amazing. Add in the fact that it overlooks the Sarnia Bay! You must try the ribs, broasted chicken and the nachos!
Stokes is sort of a great "default" place of dining in Sarnia. Decent food, decent service. I've gone many times over the years, some experiences were better than others. Most frustrating though, is that they seem to close or shut down the kitchen at completely random times, often very early.
Visited stokes today for lunch and had a 1/2 sandwich and salad. Excellent as always. Fair price and I used the value card. Waitrress was excellent.
Through the past year or so, I have found the food to be not as good as it used to be. One, time, I recieved a lunch that had been sitting under the heater long enough to toast my untoasted sandwich. Even the pickle was hot! YUK! Stokes was always a choice of mine in the past. Now, I find it is the last.....unless I only want to drink. Their outdoor smoke room is heated and I love that!
Went for a company function (there were 16 of us). Instead of placing us all together, we were split over several tables in the coldest room in the place. There was one hostess for all of us. The food was good, but service was lacking - instead of coming around to the other side of the table, she insisted on handing our plates over the head of the person across from us. Coffee and tea were always cold, and we actually had to go and FIND the server when we were ready to leave. It took more than 30 minutes just for her to sort out our bills (not including paying them - just handing them out). Food itself wasn't bad, but the poor service outranked the okay food in deciding where we'll be next year for our Christmas party. Stokes definitely ISN'T it.
Not my first choice for a good meal. Will not be back. Food has gone way down in taste!
Absolutely the worst veggie fajita ever!! I am a vegetarian and I figured a veggie fajita would be a pretty safe thing to order at this restaurant. I was wrong. Instead of the expected grilled mushrooms, green peppers and onions, I received a bag of frozen veggetables thrown onto a sizzling plate. THERE WERE BROCCOLLI, CAULIFLOWER, and CARROT PIECES! TOO LARGE TO PUT INTO A SMALL FAJITA WRAP! LOL GROSS! To top it off.....I paid way too much!
