I want to let you in on a little secret: Steveston Village is home to a number of independent women’s clothing stores offering original fashion finds. Often owner operated, Steveston’s boutiques provide a pressure-free experience where popping out of the change room and asking, “How does this look?” feels like a friend has come along to lend a helping hand.

Bare Basics Lingerie Boutique

1-3871 Moncton St, Richmond BC V7E 3A7

Bare Basics is much more than a lingerie shop. Most certainly a beautiful selection of bras, undergarments can be found here (and expert bra fitters too). In addition, loungewear (nightgowns, nightshirts and pajamas), daywear (shape wear, camisoles and slips) and top of the line swimwear are all housed in this classy shop filled with warmth and laughter.

Bon Retour

Who doesn’t like finding a steal of a deal? Bon Retour carries gently pre-loved designer clothing at a fraction of the original retail price. Calvin Klein, Donna Karan, Gucci, Max Mara and Prada are amongst the designers regularly carried. There is something awfully tantalizing about not having to break the bank to be decked out in the finest clothing, jewellery, designer handbags and latest footwear fashions.

Joseph Ribkoff, French Dressing Jeans, EZZE Wear and Vancouver-based Neon Buddha are some of the shop’s popular lines. Bonus: While clothes shopping, do double duty and pick up a few practical travel accessories (think travel scale, neck pillows etc.) for an upcoming vacation.

Treasures Boutique

Stylish, fun clothing at affordable prices can be found at Treasures Boutique. Approximately half of the clothing sold is Canadian made. Owner Barbara Corder has a real knack for pairing colourful garments and accessories. She encourages clients to think outside of the box when creating outfits. Treasures’ customers drop in frequently to try on new arrivals and enjoy a social visit in this warm and welcoming boutique.

Whether you are on a mission to find bulgur wheat, curry ketchup or packaged rose petals, Richmond is home to a number of specialty shops that sell unusual edible goodies you may not easily find elsewhere. Visiting these unique grocery stores can also feel like a mini vacation to a foreign land, and that’s always a bonus!
There is something magical about shopping locally during the holiday season that could make even the Grinch’s heart grow three sizes. Steveston Village is where I like to shop; I leave behind the pressure of crowds and parking lot struggles and I’m free to purchase gifts in a leisurely, old-fashioned way. You’ll definitely find some special presents lurking inside these charming independent businesses.
Steveston is often considered a destination for fish and chips, ice cream and a stroll along Fisherman’s Wharf. What you might not know is that many businesses in the seaside village offer all kinds of tasty treats: from mini doughnuts to cupcakes, French pastries, Belgian waffles, artisan chocolates, pies and cakes, oh my…. these goodies put the wind in my sail!
