I love going to Thuan Kieu. My boyfriend has gone there for years and introduced me to it. The food is amazing, well at least what we always get is. I love knowing I can enjoy my entire meal and have no complaints. The prices are very reasonable. It can be a crowded place, but that never bothers us because we love the food so much :)
Having read the raving reviews about this restaurant, we decided to brave the snow storm and give it a try. All the dishes were average, especially the vegetarian ones. My vegetarian rice vermicelli were swimming in a bath of dull looking, corn starch sauce which could have come from any bad chinese takeaway. I am surprised that people are praising this place as one of the best vietnamese restaurants in London, Ontario! Maybe cheap = good for some! Helas, not for this vietnamese ....
This is my favourite restaurant in London. Chu and his staff are so friendly and welcoming, I feel at home the moment I walk in the door. The food is always delicious, the portions are very generous indeed (we always count on taking home some leftovers to enjoy later), and the prices are staggeringly reasonable. I invariably finish my meal feeling very lucky indeed to have discovered this gem of a restaurant.
All the dishes mentioned above are superb, but I'd like to single out the tom yum soup for special praise. Of course it's Thai-inspired, but the Thuan Kieu version has an intensely flavourful Vietnamese twist that puts it well beyond any soup I've ever tasted in a Thai restaurant. It's the kind of thing that you'll develop 2:00 a.m. cravings for ... so be warned!
As much as this restaurant can be considered small and "dingy" I feel that it completes the overall experience. For me, this restaurant is an exemplary model for this genre. I've eaten at most of London's Vietnamese restaurants and none of them come close to the quality of food, the level of highly personal service and a price that you almost feel guilty about paying. This will always be my top recommendation for a genuine Vietmanese experience.

There are three pillars to why this restaurant is so great. 1. The service: Every person who works there is courteous, respects the customer and serves them promptly. 2. Very fair prices: There is no vietnamese restaurant that can offer the same value per dollar spent. Portions are big, prices are low. 3. Food quality: It tastes great. End of story. And it's healthy, as they don't use as much oil as other restaurants.
Ignore any negative reviews you see about this restaurant, I don't know why they exist. Instead, just go to TK's and experience the joy and glory that is this restaurant.
