    All was great..but.....

My friends and i heard about this place and we thought with aq name like creme brulee this could be the place for us...and from the food point of view... TOTALLY AWESOME!!!!, We had the jerk chicken quesidilla, the roast chicken wrap and a smoked salmon wrap..for dessert we had brulee's vanilla, the butter rum is frick'n dangerous!!!!,and caramel. my toes curled!!! All was great, but there's a asian lady who was nice , but looked wayyyyy toooo stressed out, the guy behind the counter was trying to finish up orders but she was barking out orders like hitler..he's rtyin to finish but then she freaked on him ...i don't know, maybe she had a bad day. but just a little advice.. she needs to chill out and let people work.

Konditori - Canadian version by way of Hong Kong and Guyana/Holland

I've been a customer at CBCafe for about 3 years now and dine there about once a week. My first impression of this cafe is that of a Canadian version of the European Konditori, or cafe/pastry shop by way of Hong Kong and Guyana/Holland. I started to go there because of the location and because I like to patronize local mom & pop shops. I walk my dogs by the lake quite often and the cafe is dog friendly. They have a water dish outside for any pooches who want a drink of fresh water while their people have a cuppa outside on the patio. I soon found that I also really enjoy their fresh coffee and friendly personal service. You can't beat the location and atmosphere, by Frenchmans Bay and in the summer what a million dollar view down the street to the waterfront. I soon decided to give their lunches a try and really enjoy Carl's specials of the day - some of which his mom taught him to cook - Butter Chicken and Rice - yummo. Sometimes Carl tries out new dishes, so consider yourself lucky if you are a regular and are "volunteered" to taste test on one of those days. Sometimes Carl can have a bit of a heavy hand with the spices for my taste, but if I only wanted to eat what I cook, I'd stay at home. Besides, he keeps the sour cream handy for me on those days. I also like to take my laptop and work there if it's quiet enough, as they have wireless. Ida makes all the desserts herself, from scratch with the best and freshest ingredients she can find so sometimes they run out. Too bad, but call ahead and reserve a special dessert if you want a particular one, because it's not mass produced. I love to bake so really enjoy conversations with her about that and cookbooks when she is there and we have the time to talk. One night I was there for dinner and a fellow came in that was allergic to almost everything that most of us take for granted we can eat. He had heard from a friend of his that they like a challenge and are proud of providing individual service and like to feed customers who have food allergy issues. When I heard him tell them all he was allergic to - lots, and what he liked - not so much, I thought - good luck. They got to work and stepped up to the challenge. He liked his meal so much, he ordered a second helping. So if you go there and what you want is not on the menu, talk with them. They appreciate any customers who make polite, respectful, constructive requests and suggestions and I have seen them do their best to accomodate as they did for that fellow. What would I like to see them try? A daily lunch special with a small soup of the day, or a small salad or a half sandwich combo (so order any two of the three) for $10 or under and if you want a small dessert and a coffee for $5 or under. This would allow those who may not venture down to this beautiful area to eat, thinking it may be too expensive, to enjoy all it has to offer, on a budget or a fixed income. If you don't want to eat, the coffee is always fresh. As I've dined there, I've seen them making a new pot every few minutes for their eat-in or take out customers. As I mentioned, I have been a customer for about three years and this cafe and these people will always be special to me and my family because it is the place where my mom chose to have her last meal out before she passed away this spring. Ida and Carl learned of the stress our family was under due to our moms illness and hospitalization. They helped make and serve Christmas dinner for us and the hospital floor staff while we spent this past Christmas in the hospital with our mom. Both times mom ate as much as she could and enjoyed every minute of it. Thanks Ida and Carl and much success to you and Cafe Creme Brulee.
