This was my first time at this rest. and for the most part it was positive. The sashimi was some of the best I've had in Canada (butter fish in particular is not as readily available on the West coast) but is not included in the lunch menu. Some of the rolls were particularly unique (Tex Mex Roll, BBQ Beef rib roll, Love Roll-cream cheese with salmon and snapper for instance). The red bean ice cream was nice and creamy unlike many others I have had. The egg pudding is nothing more than a creme caramel (somewhat bitter however). The place was not too busy but the service was slow, especially compared to the numbers of staff. Also, the order was incorrect or broken up several times. It took 10-15 min per order or longer. The staff had a difficult time communicating to the customers, other than to repeat what was on the menu. They coudn't expand on what was available other than what I could read. The price was a little more than the menu on line (must vary from store to store) and for the weekend dinner, it was a litte more pricey ($3-7 more per person) than what I pay on the West Coast for something similar, but it did have all you can eat sashimi which is sometimes limited elsewhere. Cost was $21 pp excluding drinks, taxes, etc. All in all, I would go back, just for the food. The buffet off the menu is a great way to do it and I would recommend you go with a few people in order to sample a variety of food.
The food is great but the servers are very rude. They snicker at you and ignore. We generly get take-out now because we love the food and for us it is cheaper to get take-out.
This has got to be one of our favorite restaurant in the area. Great food, very affordable. wide variety and all you can eat. Authentic cuisine, fresh procuce. I, too, don't know how this restaurant got so many bad reviews. We have been there at least 5 times now and every time we just really really like it. I personaly have a weak spot for the green tea ice cream... ! the 9/10 service is because sometimes... I'm too anxious to order more food and not patient enough for the waitress to come to our table...
It takes at least an hour to eat lunch here so make sure you don't have to be back to work on time . . . wait staff are like robots without any personality. Not quite rude but you can imagine what they say about you in the back room. Save your jokes and / or smart comments . . . I have been there many times and it seems each time I go my favorite dish has been relegated to the dinner menu . . . pretty soon all you'll get for lunch will be steamed rice and noodle soup. Having said all that it's the best sushi in Barrie . . .
We ordered a wide array of sushi, they came back to inform us that one of the things we ordered was not on the lunch menu (Then why not say that when we ordered it?). So we added veg. tempura to our list. They came back with tempura nearly 40 minutes later. About 20 minutes more we realized the first order was still not on the table. We asked 3 different servers and they all said "I will check for you". None of them got back to us. Now it's been an hour and 20 minutes and we needed to go. I spoke to the manager about receiving a gift certificate since we didn't get anything but tempura in over an hour. She said she would give me gift certificates....right after I paid for today......WE DIDN'T EAT ANYTHING! I told her I'd pay for the tempura only but that was all, and demanded a gift certificate. She said if I paid today we'd be even. Ok. So what she was saying was if I paid for nothing today, I'd get a gift certificate, if I didn't pay, I wouldn't get a gift certificate. Either way they weren't out any money. Needless to say I didn't pay and I didn't get a gift certificate. NICE WAY TO RUN BUSINESS, FOLKS!
